They had been kept as status symbol pets by the drug barons. Delivered to the Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue Centre in Locust Grove, Georgia, the decision was made to keep the youngsters together, because of their budding rapport.

‘We could have separated them, but since they came as a kind of family, the zoo decided to keep them together,’ said Diane Smith, assistant director of Noah’s Ark. To our knowledge, this is the only place lion tiger and bear where you’ll find this combination of animals together.’ Living with the zoo’s founders for the past eight years, Shere Khan, Baloo and Leo have now moved to a purpose-built habitat where the US public can now witness first hand their touching relationships. ‘We didn’t have the money to move them at first,’ said Diane. ‘Now their habitat is sorted and they have been moved away from the children’s zoo to areas where the public can really get a good look.

Handled by Charles and Jama Hedgecoth, the zoo’s owners and founders, the three friendly giants appear to have no comprehension of their animal differences.’Baloo and Shere Khan are very close,’ says Diane.’That is because they rise early, and as Leo is a lion, he likes to spend most of the day sleeping. It is wonderful and magical to see a giant American Black Bear put his arm around a Bengal and then to see the tiger nuzzle up to the bear like a domestic cat.

When Leo wakes up the three of them mess around for most of the day before they settle down to some food.’ Surprisingly for three apex predators with the lion tiger and bear playing together power to kill with a single bite or swipe of their paw, they are very relaxed around each other. ‘They eat, sleep and play together,’ said Jama. ‘As they treat each other as siblings they will lie on top of each other for heat and simply for affection. At the moment they are getting used to their new habitat. Shere Khan is being quite reticent about the move, but Baloo, the bear, is very good at leading him lion tiger bear friendship on and making him feel comfortable and safe.’ Explaining that the three ‘brothers’ have always seemed to share a unique bond, Charles said: ‘Noah’s Ark is their home and they could not possibly be separated from each other.

‘You just have to remember who you’re dealing with when you are with them, lion tiger bear though. It’s when you forget that these fellows are wild animals that you get yourself in trouble.’ The trio’s new habitat had to be constructed carefully, in order to accommodate its occupants. Jama said: ‘The clubhouse had to be very sturdy for the guys, because they all sleep in it together,’She added: ‘We had to include a creek, because the tiger and the bear both like to be in water.’

Fawn and Bobcat : Unlikely Friends

fawn and bobcat

bobcat and fawn Okay, so it is not exactly the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy of the wolf lying down with the lamb, but it is close (Isaiah 11:6). These two were found huddled together in the laundry room of a house after a fire in the surrounding mountains had separated them from their mothers. Under normal circumstances, their natures would make them enemies, but this bobcat and fawn found comfort in each other. The overwhelming sense of vulnerability and insecurity made them disregard instinct for the sake of preservation.

It is often said that adversity will either tear us apart or bring us together. This is just a brief reminder that coming together can prove beneficial if at least the fear of being alone is removed. Ecclesiastes says it best, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either fawn and bobcat kittenof them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him” (NASB, Ecc. 4:9-12).

Four Deer Rescued from Drowning

Deer Rescued from Drowning

It’s amazing how some of the best sermons are preached by the behavior of animals. This story recorded in several newspapers as well as other blog sights relate a powerful truth.

Trey Copeland of Outdoorzy.com explained it this way…

deer rescued on boat“Tom Satre told the Sitka Gazette that he was out with a charter group on his 62-foot fishing vessel when four juvenile black-tailed deer swam directly toward his boat. “Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at us.

We could tell right away that the young bucks were distressed. I opened up my back gate and we helped the typically skittish and absolutely wild animals onto the boat. In all my years fishing, I’ve never seen anything quite like it! “Once on-board, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering. We headed for Taku Harbor.

Once we reached the dock, the first buck that we had pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back as if to say ‘thank you’ and disappeared into the forest.” After a bit of prodding and assistance, two more followed, but the smallest deer needed a little more help (that’s him in the wheelbarrow).

Deer Saved From Drowning

His daughter, Anna, and son, Tim, helped the last buck to its feet. Tom said, “We didn’t know how long they had been in the icy waters or if there had been others who did not survive.” Tom concluded by saying,” My daughter later told me that the experience was something that she would never forget, and I suspect the deer felt the same way as well!”

The deer did not let their fear keep them from rescue. They were literally in over their heads and needed someone with a solution to their dilemma. Unlike humans, their pride did not keep them from seeking help. Neither did fear stifle them. How many times do we get into overwhelming circumstances and fail to cry out for help?

The pastor part of me sees more clearly in this story the meaning of the passage, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Cropper the Fox : A Very Happy Ending

Cropper the Fox

Cropper the FoxThis is the story of a very compassionate man and a loving beautiful fox. Six years ago, Cropper was found in the street after a fight with dogs. The young fox was seriously injured and suffering with toxoplasmosis. Cropper was nursed back to health by this man’s patience, love and determination. Because of the injuries he will never be able to be strong enough to fend for himself in the wild, but Cropper has a new home and spends very happy days with his human friend.

Love is not just a feeling it is a demonstrated action. In the first Mike Towler Fox letter to the Corinthian church Paul used 16 attributes to describe love and not one of them is a feeling (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). The feeling that we call love is a by-product of the actions.

The deepest bonds formed between people, or people and animals, are the result of love being demonstrated. I remember the first dog my wife rescued from the local pound. It was my wife’s love that was somehow understood by that Puggle that forged a deep relationship between my wife and that dog. Mugsy, as she would be called, stayed always near my wife showing a loyalty that seemed to communicate gratitude. For as long as she lived she was truly my wife’s dog.

Thank you to all who care and show it by how lovingly they treat others. Thank you to this man demonstrating his kindness to one of God’s creatures.
